To All Club Secretaries

Posted: Tuesday, July 04, 2017

Dear Secretary - As you are aware, Dublin has the honour of hosting four games in the UEFA EURO2020 tournament in three years’ time in the Aviva Stadium. The EUROs will be the biggest sporting event to take place in Ireland as well as a massive showcase for football, for Dublin City and for the country.

The FAI and Dublin City Council together with Aviva Stadium, Government and many other stakeholders have established a project team which is working through UEFA’s detailed list of requirements as a host city. Last week, the FAI National Council and Board were briefed by the Project Leader Declan Conroy on the scale and scope of EURO 2020 and the progress made to date by Local Organising Committee.

UEFA has laid out close to 70 separate projects to be managed by the Dublin Local Organising team – many of them technical but many more which provide a great opportunity for the family of football to become involved including football legacy, promotional and volunteer programmes.

When we hosted the UEFA Europa League Final in 2011, the football family embraced the event and played a big part in its success. For 2020, under UEFA’s guidance, the Volunteer Programme and National Promotion and Legacy elements of the project will be established over the coming 12 months and I know that many football people from clubs and leagues will want to play a part in this historic event.

We will keep you advised of specific progress on the project and on how your League/Club can become involved. In the meantime, it would be great if you can also advise your committees and clubs that should they be interested in playing a part, we would be delighted to try and facilitate that involvement.

With best regards.

John Delaney CEO
